What was the Artspace Survey?
Community and civic leaders explored the potential for new, affordable space to be built in the Elmira/Corning area. Artspace Projects, a national nonprofit developer with a mission to create affordable art spaces, had been asked to assist. In order to assess the needs of local artists, the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes and Three Rivers Development teamed up to fund the Artspace survey.
The project concept has not yet been determined, but may include combined live/work space, private studios and workspaces, and private or shared spaces that can be rented on a long-term, short-term and/or occasional basis. We needed your input to determine if there is sufficient demand to warrant new space, and if so, the nature of that space (types of space, amenities, design features and affordability). Thank you to the 535 individuals and 77 organizations for participating!
The Survey Results
The survey results pointed to live/work space units in the Elmira/Corning area and possibly a shared work space with individual studio space. To view the report, click here.
Look for updates in 6 months. The efforts are ongoing but nascent, and artists need to be aware that the project may take 3 to 5 years to come to fruition. That being said, we are still working on this! If you have any questions, call or email Connie at 607-962-1332 x204, [email protected].
